On August 21, 2025 Aker BP announced a major oil discovery in its Omega Alfa exploration campaign in the Norwegian North Sea, estimated to hold between 96 and 134 million barrels of oil equivalent (MMboe). CEO Karl Johnny Hersvik hailed it as one of Norway's largest commercial discoveries in a decade and a significant step towards the ambition of producing over one billion barrels from the Yggdrasil area. The campaign, which initially reported a smaller find in July, involved drilling five targets via a multilateral well and resulted in a substantial upgrade of the recoverable volume.
The operation, conducted using the Deepsea Stavanger rig, set records by drilling the three longest well branches in Norwegian history, with the longest reaching 10,666 meters. This extensive horizontal drilling provided high-quality reservoir data, reducing uncertainty and enabling rapid progress on plans to tie the discovery back to the Yggdrasil development. Yggdrasil, the largest ongoing field development project on the Norwegian continental shelf, is on track for first oil in 2027. The partners in the licenses are Aker BP, Equinor, Orlen Upstream Norway, and Petoro.

On August 20, 2025, Strohm secured a contract to supply four Thermoplastic Composite Pipe (TCP) Jumpers for a deepwater gas field offshore Malaysia. The order, placed by major Southeast Asian operator through local partner Dynamic Ocean Sdn Bhd, involves large-bore, collapse-resistant jumpers with a 7-inch internal diameter for use in water depths up to 1,500 meters.
The carbon fiber PA12 jumpers represent a significant technological advancement for deepwater applications, offering a non-corrosive, lightweight alternative to steel that reduces installation costs and CO2 emissions. Company executives highlighted the contract as a major engineering milestone that validates their technical expertise. The jumpers will be manufactured in the Netherlands and are scheduled for delivery in the third quarter of 2026.
