lng-canada

On September 16, 2025, A C$10 billion floating LNG export facility, Ksi Lisims LNG, was approved for Canada's northwest coast with operations targeted for 2028. The project is a joint venture between the Nisga’a Nation, who own the land, Blackstone Inc.-funded Western LNG, and a group of Canadian energy firms called Rockies LNG Partners. With a planned capacity of 12 million tons per year, it is set to become Canada's second-largest LNG export facility.

The approval signals a shift in the government's economic policy under Prime Minister Mark Carney, who is championing major projects to boost the economy and reduce reliance on US trade. The project aligns with the government's newly established Major Projects Office, which is expediting developments deemed to be in the national interest, including the expansion of the Shell-backed LNG Canada facility.
