On November 19, 2025 BW Energy successfully completed the Kharas-1 appraisal well in the Kudu license offshore Namibia. Drilled to a depth of 5,100 meters, the well encountered multiple shallow turbidite reservoirs with dry-gas shows. Crucially, in a deeper section, it identified a fractured volcaniclastic reservoir containing condensate and/or light oil. This marks the first-ever confirmation of liquid hydrocarbons in the block, providing key evidence of a working petroleum system.

The well, which will now be plugged and abandoned as planned, achieved its technical objective by testing multiple targets. CEO Carl Arnet stated that the acquired data is invaluable and will guide the future appraisal program. BW Energy's subsequent activities will focus on these newly identified high-value targets containing both liquid hydrocarbons and gas.

eia-alaska

On November 19, 2025 Based on the latest U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) forecast, crude oil production from Alaska is projected to see its most significant annual growth since the 1980s. Output is expected to reach 477,000 barrels per day (bpd) in 2026, a 13% increase from 2025, marking the state's highest level since 2018.

This sharp rebound is driven by two major new developments on the North Slope. ConocoPhillips' Nuna project, which began production in late 2024, is expected to peak at 20,000 bpd. Furthermore, the Santos and Repsol-operated Pikka Phase 1 project, scheduled to start in early 2026, is anticipated to reach a peak of approximately 80,000 bpd and alone account for nearly 20% of the state's 2025 total output. The EIA's revised forecast reflects the strong performance and accelerated schedule of these new, high-yielding wells.

SLB OneSubsea

On November 18, 2025, SLB OneSubsea secured an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract from bp to supply a subsea boosting system for the Tiber field in the deepwater U.S. Gulf of Mexico. This system will support the development of the challenging Paleogene reservoirs.

This award follows a similar contract for bp's Kaskida project, and both fields will utilize an identical, standardized high-pressure pump system. This strategy of using the same technology across multiple developments is designed to reduce costs, accelerate timelines, and simplify execution. The adoption of subsea boosting helps increase recovery and improve the economics of deepwater production. No details on first oil or production capacity for Tiber have been disclosed by bp.
