On December 4, 2024, Aramco, in collaboration with Linde and SLB, has achieved a significant milestone in its ambitious Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) project in Jubail, Saudi Arabia. With Aramco holding a 60% equity stake and the remaining 40% split equally between Linde and SLB, this initiative underscores the importance of global partnerships in driving innovation and sustainable solutions. The first phase of this project is expected to be completed by 2027, with a capacity to capture and store up to 9 million metric tons of CO2 annually. This aligns with Aramco’s broader commitment to achieving net-zero Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions across its wholly-owned operated assets by 2050 and contributing to the Kingdom’s 2060 net-zero objectives.

The CCS hub will utilize cutting-edge technologies to capture CO2 emissions from three Aramco gas plants and other industrial sources. Captured CO2 will be transported through an advanced pipeline network and stored securely underground in a saline aquifer, leveraging Saudi Arabia’s significant geological potential for carbon sequestration. This project also complements Aramco’s efforts in advancing blue hydrogen and ammonia programs, supporting the Kingdom’s transition to a more sustainable energy mix and promoting the circular carbon economy approach.
