On May 07, 2025 Dräger Marine & Offshore (DMO) extended its long-term supply contract with a major North Sea oil and gas operator for five years, with an option to extend for two additional years. The agreement ensures over 10 UK North Sea assets will continue using DMO’s portable gas detection and breathing apparatus systems, building on a decade-long partnership that includes product provision and training services. Lawrie Kerr, UK Sales Manager at DMO, highlighted the contract as a testament to the company’s expertise and industry-leading products, reinforcing its position in the offshore sector and underscoring the operator’s commitment to safety.
In an industry where safety is critical but budgets are constrained, DMO provides cost-effective and reliable solutions like the Dräger X-am® 2800 multi-gas detector, which offers live data transmission and robust fleet management, and the Dräger X-am 2500 for personal protection. This contract strengthens DMO’s reputation as a leading safety equipment provider and supports its mission to deliver advanced safety solutions to the offshore oil and gas sector. The deal also serves as a foundation for future business growth, ensuring continued adherence to high safety standards.

On May 06, 2025, SLB announced the launch of Electris on Day 2 of the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) in Houston, Texas. Electris is a portfolio of digitally enabled electric well completions technologies designed to enhance production and recovery while reducing total asset ownership costs. By digitizing control of the entire productive area of the wellbore, Electris provides real-time production intelligence across the reservoir. This allows operators to better predict and respond to dynamic production conditions, improving reservoir management and unlocking reserves that traditional systems may miss.
With over 100 installations across five countries, Electris technologies are already demonstrating value. In Norway, the system has been deployed offshore in an extended-reach well, helping identify productive zones and reduce water production, which in turn lowers energy use for water lifting and reinjection. Paul Sims, president of Production Systems at SLB, emphasized that Electris completions help operators manage increasingly complex reservoirs and improve recovery factors, ultimately maximizing return on investment while minimizing the need for costly well interventions.

On May 05, 2025 BW Energy reached a final investment decision (FID) for the Maromba development offshore Brazil, targeting 500 million barrels of oil in place within the well-delineated Maastrichtian sands. The project will employ a cost-efficient strategy using a repurposed jack-up platform as an integrated drilling and wellhead platform (WHP), alongside a refurbished FPSO with a storage capacity of 1 million barrels. Initial production will come from six horizontal wells equipped with Electric Submersible Pumps (ESPs), with oil transferred to the FPSO Maromba for processing, storage, and offloading. The development, located in the Campos Basin about 100 km offshore, is expected to deliver first oil by the end of 2027, reach plateau production of 60,000 barrels per day, and more than double BW Energy’s net output by 2028.
The FPSO is undergoing refurbishment in China, and BW Energy has acquired a jack-up rig for $107.5 million, which will be converted for WHP use. The company expects to invest around $1 billion before first oil, $200 million for completing the initial drilling campaign by 2028, and $300 million for an additional six wells by 2030. The infrastructure will also enable future low-cost development phases, including water injectors and appraisal of other proven reservoirs. BW Energy’s CEO highlighted that repurposing existing infrastructure minimizes capital outlay, accelerates time to first oil, and reduces emissions. The Maromba field, with 123 million barrels of 2P reserves and additional upside, was fully acquired in 2019, with Magma Oil holding a 5% back-in right expected to be exercised at first oil.
