On July 30, 2025 SLB has introduced theOnWave™ autonomous logging platform a groundbreaking technology designed to enhance the efficiency and reliability of formation evaluation measurements in any well condition. This cable-free system acquires high-fidelity downhole data without requiring a wireline unit or cable, reducing deployment time by over 50% compared to conventional methods. The platform allows for drill pipe rotation and mud circulation during logging, improving well safety and reducing stuck pipe risks. According to Frederik Majkut, president of SLB’s Reservoir Performance division, OnWave represents a new era in formation evaluation, enabling data-driven decision-making across the well life cycle—from exploration to production.

Deployable in any well trajectory without an onsite SLB crew, OnWave autonomously performs downhole tasks typically handled by surface engineers, including measurement acquisition and data quality checks. It also maintains real-time communication with the surface to verify tool positioning and functionality—a feature lacking in most cableless systems—ensuring data accuracy and eliminating the need for remedial runs. Successfully tested in regions like the U.S. and the Middle East, OnWave has significantly improved operational efficiency. For instance, in South Texas, it reduced well landing time from hours to just27 minutes while delivering high-quality petrophysical and acoustic data that optimized stimulation and completion designs for E&P operators.

woods-exxon

On July 30, 2025 Woodside Energy will take over operatorship of ExxonMobil’s Bass Strait assets including offshore production facilities, theLongford Gas Plant and associated infrastructure, while maintaining existing equity and decommissioning plans. This move strengthens Woodside’s position as Australia’s leading energy company, leveraging its operational expertise and integrating ExxonMobil’s experienced workforce. The consolidation is expected to generate over$60 million in synergies** while enabling potential future developments, including four new gas wells that could supply an additional 200 petajoules of gas, subject to further evaluation and investment decisions.

The transition, set for completion in 2026 aligns with Woodside’s strategy to maximize value from existing infrastructure and support Australia’s domestic energy needs. ExxonMobil praised Woodside as a world-class operator, emphasizing a smooth handover of operations after more than 50 years in the Gippsland Basin. Woodside’s EVP Liz Westcott highlighted the deal as a commitment to securing Australia’s energy supply, complementing its existing operations in Western Australia and the east coast.

energy-flng-report

On July 29, 2025, Floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) capacity is set to nearly triple by 2030, reaching 42 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa), as the technology overcomes early challenges and proves competitive with onshore LNG terminals, according to Rystad Energy. FLNG projects now achieve utilization rates above 85%, rivaling land-based facilities, while cost efficiencies—driven by experience and vessel conversions—have slashed capital expenditure. Projects like Coral South FLNG (Mozambique) and Delfin FLNG (U.S.) now report liquefaction costs around $1,000–$1,100 per tonne, down from early benchmarks like Shell’s Prelude ($2,114/tonne). Additionally, repurposing aging LNG carriers (e.g., Cameroon FLNG at $500/tonne) offers a low-cost alternative, accelerating deployment.

FLNG’s speed and flexibility are key advantages in today’s volatile LNG market, with newbuilds averaging three years versus 4.5 years for onshore plants. Its mobility allows redeployment if projects stall, mitigating risk. As demand grows and smaller, remote gas fields become viable, FLNG is emerging as a strategic solution—unlocking stranded reserves in regions like Africa and Asia while offering faster returns. With 55 Mtpa capacity expected by 2035, the sector is transitioning from experimental to mainstream, reshaping global LNG supply chains.
